The Houston Dash NWSL is relaunching the formal process to sell the team after last year's talks with RHC Partners fell apart. Ted Segal, the owner of both the Dash and the Houston Dynamo, was in advanced talks to sell the NWSL club for about $120 million. However, the talks ended due to pushback from the league's central office regarding RHC's provenance of money. The Dash sale process is now focusing elsewhere, with the team's valuation at $74 million, according to Sportico's last published valuations in September 2024. The team plays its home games in Shell Energy Stadium, also home to the Dynamo. RHC was founded by Richard Hsiao, the American-born son of Chinese billionaire Xiao Jianhua. The league is currently evaluating new expansion options, likely at fees even higher than the $165 million expansion fee paid by Arthur Blank for an NWSL team in Atlanta. The Dash's sale process may be challenging due to the team's shared staffing and infrastructure with the Dynamo. Segal bought the Dash and the Dynamo in May 2021 for about $400 million, though the women's team was a near-zero part of the financials. Since then, league valuations and commercial opportunities have grown dramatically. The average team was worth $105 million in Sportico's 2024 numbers, and is certainly worth significantly more now. There's been a lot of ownership turnover in the league, with Segal now one of the longest-tenured control owners. The Dash's new owners will need to replace the team's shared staffing and infrastructure with the Dynamo. The team's valuation and potential new owners will be closely watched in the coming months.
